The Work

What this service covers

Residential electrical work is the backbone of Cameron Electric. Whether you are buying a new home and need an inspection, planning a basement renovation, or fixing a circuit that keeps tripping, our licensed electricians handle the job to ESA code and clean up before they leave. We work in homes built last year and homes built ninety years ago, and we explain what we are doing in plain language so you know what you are paying for.

Common scope

  • Receptacles, switches and dimmers
  • Smoke and carbon monoxide detector installation
  • Aluminum and knob-and-tube wiring replacement
  • Basement, garage and addition wiring
  • Pot lights, vanity lights and ceiling fixtures
  • Outdoor lighting, post lights and security lighting
  • Hot tub and pool wiring
  • Troubleshooting and circuit repairs

Frequently asked

  • Do I need a permit for residential electrical work?
Almost any wiring work in Ontario beyond a like-for-like fixture swap requires an Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) notification. As a licensed electrical contractor we file the permit, schedule the ESA inspection and hand you the Certificate of Inspection at the end.
  • How long does typical residential work take?
A few outlet replacements take an hour or two. A whole-home rewire on a small bungalow runs three to five days. We give you a clear written quote with a target completion date before any work begins.
