The Work

What this service covers

If your home still has a 60-amp service or a Federal Pioneer / Stab-Lok panel, you have probably had insurance push back on the renewal. Cameron Electric does panel upgrades every week. We coordinate with Kitchener-Wilmot Hydro or Waterloo North Hydro for the disconnect, file the ESA permit, do the panel swap, and you have power back on the same day in most cases.

Common scope

  • 60A to 100A or 200A service upgrades
  • Federal Pioneer / Stab-Lok panel replacement
  • Sub-panel installation for additions and shops
  • Meter base and mast replacement
  • Insurance documentation
  • Surge protection and whole-home protection
  • ESA permit and inspection coordination
  • Hydro disconnect/reconnect coordination

Frequently asked

  • How long is the power off during a panel upgrade?
Most panel upgrades take six to eight hours of off-power time. We start in the morning, hydro disconnects, we swap the panel and circuits, ESA inspects, hydro reconnects. You sleep with the lights on the same night.
  • Why does my insurance company want my panel upgraded?
Federal Pioneer / Stab-Lok panels and 60-amp services are flagged because of fire-risk history and inadequate capacity for modern loads. Many insurers will not renew without an upgrade. We provide the ESA Certificate of Inspection your insurer needs.
