The Work

What this service covers

Buying a house and worried about the wiring? Got a letter from your insurer demanding documentation? Cameron Electric does pre-purchase home electrical inspections and insurance-driven inspections, and as a licensed contractor (LEC) we file the ESA notification and coordinate the inspection on every job we do. The Certificate of Inspection that comes out the other side is what insurance underwriters want to see.

Common scope

  • Pre-purchase home electrical inspection
  • Insurance-driven inspections (Stab-Lok, knob-and-tube, aluminum)
  • ESA notification filing and inspection coordination
  • General Inspection (GI) coordination on existing homes
  • Written inspection report with photos
  • Code-compliance recommendations
  • Certificate of Inspection delivery
  • Multi-unit and rental property inspections

Frequently asked

  • How is your inspection different from the home inspector's?
Home inspectors are generalists. We are licensed electricians. We open the panel, test grounds and circuits, identify hidden knob-and-tube and aluminum wiring, and tell you exactly what an electrical safety authority would flag and what it would cost to fix.
  • What is an ESA Certificate of Inspection?
It is the document the Electrical Safety Authority issues after they inspect work that was done under permit. It proves the work meets the Ontario Electrical Safety Code. Insurance underwriters and home buyers' lawyers ask for it.
